Being A Gentleman in Real Life Is Important. Why Not Online?
http://artofmanliness.com/2011/07/13/being-a-gentleman-in-the-age-of-the-internet-6-ways-to-bring-civility-online/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheArtOfManliness+%28The+Art+of+Manliness%29/A gentleman treats others with dignity and respect, regardless of the kind of forum in which he participates. He treats life’s fellow travelers as he himself would like to be treated. And in doing so, he makes the world a little better of a place everywhere he goes. He leaves those he interacts with feeling edified and uplifted instead of depressed and angry. Every man has the power to brighten his corner of the world, whether that corner be in the office, his home, or online. The more men who decide to take the higher road of civility, the more enjoyable everyone’s lives become. And choosing to reject our baser impulses in favor of our higher ones is a big part of becoming our best selves and building our legacy.

Westboro Baptist Church to Protest Ryan Dunn's Funeral
Ryan Dunn Is Dead
Unless you're a young, juvenile delinquent like myself, you're probably wondering who the heck Ryan Dunn is. Luckily for you, you haven't been living under a rock for the past ten-ish years and you've seen the movie Jackass. If that isn't the case, go out and watch it. It will be worth your while. Just don't eat a large meal beforehand. ;)
After you've watched Jackass, take a second and remember the scene where the guy shoves a toy car up his butt and visits the doctor. The fine young man who performed such prank is indeed the same Ryan Dunn referenced in the title of this post. Now that You know who I'm talking about, we can move on. I don't know much about Ryan Dunn. I've never followed him or anything he's done. Outside of Jackass, I would have no idea that he existed, which caused me to think a bit. How many people are there who are just like me? How many people will remember Ryan Dunn only as the guy who got his rocks off by sticking toy cars up his butt? Does it even matter how someone is remembered? Maybe I take it one step further. How do his parents feel as they try to mourn their son's death while the world recalls his least flatting moments? What do you think about all of this? Leave a comment below.Tuesday, June 7, 2011

How much do you want to know about your food?
RFID tags are already used to trace everything from poker chips to hotel towels, but what if these little pellets were embedded directly within your lunch, providing everything you'd ever wanna know about that ham sandwich you're about to beast? That's the idea behind NutriSmart -- a food tracking system that revolves around edible RFID tags.
Would you pay to have RFID tags embedded in your food?

Would you rent out your car by the hour?
Getaround is a new person-to-person car sharing service which allows car owners to rent their vehicles to their neighbors. Members can rent and unlock cars with the Getaround iPhone app. The beta version of the service is currently available in the San Francisco Bay Area and San Diego.
If there was a network to rent your car out while you weren't using it, would you join? I would definitely want to be part of this if I didn't have a car, but as a car owner, the compensation would have to be pretty dang good.
Do you like (really) old movies?
There's a certain thing about old movies that really intrigues me. This one is no exception.

Never forget to personalize everything you do.
The topics you write about – and the way you pen the articles – will make or break you. There are thousands of excellent writers out there. Hundreds of people likely create the exact same type of content that you do each day. How the heck are you supposed to stand out when there is just so much already out there?
How will people ever be able to associate the things that you do with you if you don't put your mark on them?
How much effort does it take to make a good video?

Koenigsegg engineer building modern-day Volvo P1800 by Jeremy Korzeniewski
Vox Volvo P1800 - Click above for a high-res image gallery
Mattias Vöcks is at it again. Back in 2006, the Swedish-born designer who normally spends his days hand-assembling supercars for Koenigsegg used the SEMA to debut his show-stopping custom 1967 Volvo Amazon that was once voted "Sweden's Hottest Volvo." That title may soon go out to another of Vöcks' stunning creations, this time based on the classic Volvo P1800 made famous in part as the car driven by Roger Moore in the British television series The Saint from the 1960s.

Apple floats iPhone '4S' with A5 chip to select developers to prepare for next-gen iPhone
Apple isn’t taking the next iPhone’s A5-power lightly. They already have select developers working on versions of their iPhone applications that take full advantage of the next-generation iPhone’s speedier and much more powerful hardware. These developers, seemingly from high-level gaming outfits, have been given what is essentially an iPhone 4 but with an A5 processor instead of an A4. The device itself is virtually identical to the iPhone 4, and there is no way anyone can tell it’s not an iPhone 4 based on the phone’s exterior.

Can Cops Search Your Phone???
"One way of looking at it is that phones are just like any other container. Let's say I'm stopped for speeding and the police find cocaine, and then I'm arrested for cocaine possession; the police could search my car. They could also search any duffel bags that were in my car, and let's say that I had a box of notecards--they could search that. If [an officer] can search that container of notecards, the question becomes: Can he also search my iPhone, which also contains note cards of a sort? But the other argument is that it differs completely in kind, since the type of information on the phone is so different." (http://boingboing.net/2011/04/20/aclu-to-michigan-cop.html)
I don't believe cops can search your phone. A separate warrant should be required to search your device.
What do you think?

Multitasking is Ruining the World
Humanity has created a society that values quantity over quality.
You're probably thinking that I'm an idiot. Of course people still value nice things.
This is definitely true. People do still like nice things, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about multitasking.
Rather than doing one thing and one thing well, people try to do everything. They spread themselves too thin.
Kids today think that watching TV, listening to music, and texting their BFF all at once is something to be proud of, a badge of honor.
I'm here to tell you that this isn't the case. Rather than doing one thing and doing it well, they are doing three things and half-assing (third-assing) all three of them.
As humans, we can really only concentrate on one thing at a time. When the TV and the radio are on, you can really only focus in on one of them. That's just how humans are.
Chameleons have two eyes that move independently of each other, which allows them to look at two different things at once.
Humans don't have this advantage. Our eyes work together, an our ears work together. Our brain really only allows us to concentrate on one thing at once.
For this reason, you need to stop trying to do everything at the same time.
Take a few extra minutes and finish one thing before you start the next.

Supreme Court Ruled That Tomatoes are Vegetables
Technically, green peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, and tomatoes are all fruits. But don’t try telling that to the U.S. Supreme Court. Per the 1893 case Nix v. Hedden, the court decided tomatoes were veggies and therefore subject to the vegetable tariff. The Supreme Court’s reasoning? Tomatoes have to be vegetables because they’re usually served with dinner, not dessert.

The Importance of Napping
You need a boost of creativity. Don’t know how many happy little clouds to add to your painting, and Bob Ross won’t be on until 3? Does writing your essay for English class feel, as Ronald Reagan put it, like crapping a pineapple? Then you need a dose of REM sleep, which increases your creativity. You’ll need a longer nap to get to the REM stage and since potential REM peaks early in the day and declines from there, aim for something like a 90 minute nap before 2 pm.

We've Been In Space for 50 Years
It was April 12th, 1961, or fifty years ago today, that Yuri Gagarin became the first human being to leave Earth -- the ground, the atmosphere, the stratosphere -- and to soar into outer space.
